FAQ Blog.

Quality Control, how do you guarantee the maximum quality of my movie?

3/9/2021

Each DCP we author is created by a specialized technician and is not an automated procedure by a computer.

This makes it possible to guarantee quality control in all the stages of production, from the project preparation to the final file-sharing, using all the latest tools in software and hardware along with the experience of our technicians.

  1. First of all, you have to check each file and the technical details of them such as framerate, codec, resolution, aspect ratio, color space and gamma, sound mixing, and synchronization of each subtitle track. You are also responsible for the content of each file.
  2. Our first control starts with the accumulation of the files and the confirmation of the given technical specifications of each file to continue with our workflow pipeline.
  3. If the picture files are in the form of an image sequence, then we will check the integrity of the name, resolution, and size of each of them for any errors and inconsistencies.
  4. After the mastering stage, every DCP has the same validation process that includes 114 individual tests. Authenticity, compliance, integrity, timed text, deep inspection & hash verification are some of them.
  5. Then our technician will ingest the DCP for a full screening. Our Flanders Scientific International (FSI) calibrated monitor will do the rest.
  6. When everything is checked in our quality control checklist we will ZIP your DCP with KEKA (the best zip software for mac)  and then we will calculate the MD5 hash footprint for the ZIP file. This stage will allow us to compare the hashes of the original file and the cloud copy of it. And this is how we verify the correct transmission for big files.
  7. If you select a CRU and HDD disk or a USB thumb drive we will transfer (not copy!) the DCP using a special software. Stage 4 is repeated again.  Every copy of your film is unique!
  8. We create a PDF report with all the technical details included for the festivals and the projectionist. For supplemental DCPs we also deliver a projectionist letter. Each physical medium has also a printed label.
  9. We upload the ZIP file to the server through an encrypted HTTPS, AES-256 connection. The server will re-calculate the hash with the MD5 method.
  10. The calculated hashes of steps 6 and 9  should be identical. This ensures that no upload error appeared during upload.
  11. Download the open-source app Quick Hash https://quickhash-gui.org/ , calculate the MD5 hash of the downloaded DCP-ZIP file and verify that you downloaded it correctly. This is very important if your internet connection is slow. Quick Hash is available on windows, mac & Linux. If the ZIP file won’t unzip or the hash footprint is not the same please download the file again.

Let us repeat. All this procedure is a typical Quality Control that we apply on EACH DCP. So far, it works 100% safe and we are happy about this.
